For nearly a century, display color calibration has been based on the CIE 1931 standard observer. However, modern display technologies increasingly reveal its limitations: displays calibrated with the same color matching function (CMF) can still appear different to the human eye. To address this, manufacturers are turning to alternative observers such as CIE 2015 or even custom CMFs.
Instrument Systems’ LumiTop spectrally enhanced 2D colorimeters enable fast and flexible switching between multiple CMFs without any hardware changes. This allows direct comparison of different CMF models and supports parallel image acquisition using multiple observers—opening new possibilities for consistent color appearance across display technologies.
